THRILLER COURSEWORK: Planning Phase 5
Today, Ryu and I had planned a detailed story-board of the first 2 minutes of our opening.

The eye turning shot from Dead Island (2011) |
I borrowed and based the "eye-turning" shot from Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), and the famous PC classic: Dead Island (2011). To me, the shot is significant and tells more than dialogue. It not only gives the establishing shot of the surrounding, but also tells the audience whose side we are viewing the narrative from- and ultimately, it takes time so audiences will pay more attention to grasp every micro-element to make sense of what is happening and what's to come. This will allow more expressive but subtle exposition of the MCEs, like the sound of the eerie music, and the angle of the cinematography. This ultimately builds a mood of desperation and awkwardness of something to happen, that the audience will be longing to see as a miracle.

Lecter from The Silence of the Lambs (1991) trailer |
After this, we will take them by surprise with the sudden shot of a scary face- taken from Silence of the Lambs (1991)'s trailer with Hannibal Lecter's face- which will definitely give a strong jump scare and subliminally attract their attention to the opening.
